The new Al Qudra Road bridge is now open, giving drivers using one of Dubai’s busy residential corridors a quicker way through the intersection with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.
Opened by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Sunday, August 9, the four-lane bridge stretches 700 metres and can handle up to 6,000 vehicles per hour. It forms part of a wider upgrade designed to improve journeys around Al Qudra Road and the surrounding communities.
A major shortcut for daily drivers
The biggest change is at the intersection itself, where waiting times are expected to fall by 85%. What could previously mean a wait of almost seven minutes should now take around one minute.
The intersection’s overall capacity will also increase significantly, rising from 7,800 to 19,400 vehicles per hour.

The newly opened bridge carries traffic along Al Qudra Road towards Al Qudra City. It also completes the opposite side of the intersection, following the opening of another bridge in February for motorists travelling from Al Qudra City towards Umm Suqeim.
Together, the two bridges are designed to keep traffic moving more smoothly along this important route.
More upgrades are coming
The work around the intersection is not finished yet. Later in August, an additional free-flow ramp is scheduled to open for motorists travelling from Jebel Ali via Emirates Road towards Umm Suqeim through Al Qudra Road.
Further ramp bridges are planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. These will include a 500-metre bridge directing traffic towards Jebel Ali and a 900-metre bridge connecting towards Downtown Dubai and Dubai International Airport.
Service roads extending three kilometres along Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street are also part of the wider works.
Who will benefit?
The broader Al Qudra Road development is expected to improve access for more than 400,000 residents and visitors across several established and growing communities.
These include Arabian Ranches 1 and 2, DAMAC Hills, DAMAC Hills 2, Mudon, Town Square, Motor City, Studio City, Mira and The Sustainable City.
The wider project covers an 11.6-kilometre stretch of Al Qudra Road and includes several new bridges and road improvements. Once complete, the works are expected to increase road capacity and reduce journey times along the upgraded section by around 70%, with the target journey time falling from 9.4 minutes to 2.8 minutes.
For residents who use Al Qudra Road regularly, the latest bridge opening is another step towards shorter waits and smoother everyday commutes, particularly as the surrounding communities continue to grow.
