Milky Way Observation Event Returns to Al Quaa Desert This June

The Milky Way Observation event is set to return to Al Quaa Desert on June 13, 2026, giving astronomy enthusiasts and curious beginners the chance to experience one of the UAE’s most spectacular night skies. Organised by Dubai Astronomy Group, the event will run from 10 pm until 2 am and promises an evening filled with stargazing, astronomy talks, telescope observations, and astrophotography sessions.

Located in Abu Dhabi’s Al Quaa Desert, often referred to as one of the UAE’s best dark-sky destinations, the event offers visitors a rare opportunity to view the Milky Way away from the bright lights of the city. The remote desert setting provides ideal conditions for observing stars, constellations, and deep-sky objects with remarkable clarity.

What to Expect During the Event

The evening will begin with check-in and a welcome session before participants are introduced to the night’s programme. A key highlight will be an expert-led talk on the Milky Way, covering the structure of our galaxy, the galactic core, and why Al Quaa is considered a prime stargazing location.

Visitors interested in photography can also attend a dedicated astrophotography session focused on capturing the Milky Way using DSLR cameras and smartphones. Later in the evening, participants will learn how to identify constellations, navigate the night sky, and understand basic sky-mapping techniques.

Throughout the event, guests will have access to guided telescope observations, allowing them to view the Moon and various deep-sky objects. There will also be opportunities to take photographs through telescope eyepieces using mobile phones.

Important Information for Visitors

A precise location pin will be shared with registered attendees before the event. Organisers have confirmed that a standard vehicle can reach the site, as the entire route is accessible via paved roads, meaning a 4×4 vehicle is not required.

Since public transport and taxis do not operate in the area, visitors should arrange their transportation in advance. Optional individual round-trip transport services are available.

Attendees are advised to wear closed-toe shoes suitable for desert terrain and bring extra layers for the cooler nighttime temperatures.

Tickets are priced between AED 150 and AED 180, with children under five admitted free of charge. Water, snacks, hot drinks, and seating will be provided, allowing guests to focus on enjoying an unforgettable night under the stars.
