The new Dubai Oud Metha bridge is now open, bringing motorists one step closer to faster journeys through one of the city’s busiest road corridors. Opened by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the bridge forms part of the wider Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project, which is now 90 per cent complete and is expected to significantly improve traffic flow once all remaining works are finished.
When the project is fully completed, travel time along the corridor is expected to drop from around 20 minutes to just five minutes, making daily commutes smoother for thousands of drivers.
A new bridge now open to motorists
The newly opened structure is a three-lane bridge that serves traffic travelling from Al Khail Road towards Al Asayel Street via Al Wasl Club Street.
Designed to improve traffic movement at one of Dubai’s busiest intersections, the bridge has the capacity to accommodate up to 3,600 vehicles per hour, helping reduce congestion during peak travel times.
The opening marks another major milestone in the ongoing road improvement project, which aims to create a more efficient route for residents travelling between several key areas of the city.
A project designed to ease congestion
The Oud Metha and Al Asayel Streets Development Project is one of the RTA’s larger infrastructure upgrades focused on improving traffic capacity and reducing journey times.
Once complete, the project will increase the capacity of Oud Metha Street by 50 per cent, allowing more vehicles to move through the corridor while easing pressure on surrounding roads.
The improvements are expected to benefit both weekday commuters and weekend travellers, making journeys through the area quicker and more predictable.
More improvements arriving next month
While the new bridge is already in operation, more upgrades are on the way. According to the RTA, two new tunnels and an additional bridge are scheduled to open by the end of August, completing the remaining major elements of the project.
With the development now 90 per cent finished, drivers can expect to see further improvements over the coming weeks as construction enters its final phase.
