Jumeirah Beach 2 Gold Accessibility Certification makes it Dubai’s first fully accessible beach

Jumeirah Beach 2 Gold Accessibility Certification has officially made the popular coastal destination the first beach in Dubai to receive this recognition from the World Disability Union. The announcement was made by Dubai Municipality on June 29, 2026, following a six-month transformation programme aimed at making the beach fully inclusive for all visitors.

The certification reflects a wider effort to improve accessibility across public spaces in Dubai, with Jumeirah Beach 2 now recognised as one of the most inclusive beach destinations in the Middle East. The upgrades focus on ensuring People of Determination and neurodiverse individuals can access and enjoy the beach independently and comfortably.

A fully accessible beach experience

The six-month upgrade programme introduced a wide range of physical, sensory and service improvements across the beach.

One of the most significant additions is the Middle East’s first beach sensory room, designed to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and sensory sensitivities. The space allows visitors to regulate their environment before or after spending time on the beach, helping to reduce sensory overload.

Accessibility to the sea has also been improved with the installation of a dedicated swimming platform and specialised floating wheelchairs, allowing safer and easier water entry for People of Determination.

Infrastructure enhancements include dedicated parking spaces, accessible ramps and pathways, wheelchair charging stations, and inclusive playground areas. Visitors also benefit from complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas, accessible toilets and showers, and free golf cart transport within the beach area.

Training, inclusivity and long-term impact

Around 150 staff members working at Jumeirah Beach 2 have undergone specialised training to support visitors with different needs. This includes guidance on assisting individuals with mobility challenges, autism spectrum disorder and sensory sensitivities, along with training in emergency response, equipment handling and inclusive customer service.

These measures aim to create a safe, respectful and supportive environment where all visitors can enjoy the beach experience without barriers.

The Gold Accessibility Certification places Jumeirah Beach 2 among the region’s leading inclusive coastal destinations. It also aligns with international accessibility standards and the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, reinforcing Dubai’s ongoing commitment to inclusive public infrastructure and tourism development.
