Tucked behind a library-style entrance, the speakeasy-inspired lounge offers a calm place to work during the day before gradually transforming into a cosy spot for crafted beverages, dinner and live music once the evening begins.
After spending time here, it’s easy to see why the concept works. Bondz doesn’t ask you to choose between work and leisure. Instead, it creates a space where the two naturally come together.
More than a speakeasy
While the hidden entrance immediately catches your attention, it’s the purpose behind the space that makes Bondz different.
Many venues in DIFC only come alive after office hours. Bondz, however, welcomes guests from midday, making it just as suitable for professionals looking to get some work done as it is for friends meeting over dinner later in the day.
Between 12 pm and 4 pm, the lounge has a calm, productive atmosphere. Comfortable seating, plenty of space between tables and attentive service make it easy to spend a few hours working on your laptop, meeting clients or catching up over a business lunch. It feels more relaxed than a busy café while offering a much warmer setting than a traditional meeting room.
As the afternoon rolls into the evening, the transition happens naturally. The lights become softer, music fills the room, and conversations become a little more animated, yet the lounge never loses its comfortable feel.
A space that makes you want to stay longer
Stepping inside Bondz feels like discovering a hidden corner of DIFC.
Warm amber lighting, dark wood finishes and leather seating give the lounge a welcoming feel from the moment you walk in. The bar sits at the heart of the space, with softly lit shelves displaying premium spirits that add to the cosy atmosphere without feeling over the top.
Everything about the interiors encourages you to slow down. It’s the kind of place where a quick coffee meeting can easily turn into dinner, or where one drink naturally becomes two because there’s no rush to leave.
Good food, easy conversations
The menu brings together Japanese and Mexican influences through a selection of small plates that are ideal for sharing.
During our visit, the chicken satay was one of the highlights, served with a rich peanut sauce that paired beautifully with the grilled chicken. The spice bag, filled with crispy fries, chicken and bell peppers, was another favourite and made for the perfect dish to enjoy alongside drinks.
We also tried the California rolls and the fried chicken sushi roll, both of which added a playful twist to familiar flavours without trying to be overly complicated.
The crafted beverages deserve a mention too. Instead of simply asking what you would like to order, the team takes the time to understand your preferences before recommending a drink. It’s a small touch that makes the service feel genuine and personal, especially if you’re someone who enjoys trying something new.
A quiet corner within the lounge
Towards the back of Bondz is a dedicated cigar lounge that feels almost like a private study.
Soft lighting, wooden shelves and carefully chosen decorative pieces give the room plenty of character, while two comfortable armchairs placed around a fireplace-style feature make it one of the cosiest corners of the venue. Even if you’re not planning to enjoy a cigar, it’s worth taking a look simply to appreciate the design and atmosphere.
Evenings with live music
As night falls, Bondz settles into its second personality. Live Cuban jazz nights every Friday and Saturday add a relaxed soundtrack to the evening. Bollywood jazz nights have also recently joined the line-up, with more themed evenings expected to follow.
The entertainment feels like a natural extension of the lounge, making it easy to enjoy the music while still catching up with the people around your table.
A welcome addition to DIFC
What stayed with us most after visiting Bondz wasn’t the hidden entrance or the crafted beverages. It was how effortlessly the space adapts to different moments in the day.
It’s somewhere you can answer emails over lunch, host a casual meeting, unwind after work or settle in for a relaxed dinner without ever feeling out of place. Add friendly service, well-executed sharing plates and a warm, inviting atmosphere, and it’s easy to see why Bondz has found its own place in DIFC’s dining and nightlife landscape.
