The Etihad Rail road closure will affect motorists travelling from Dubai towards Maliha Road in the direction of Sharjah, with the temporary diversion remaining in place until June 10, 2026.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the closure as part of ongoing infrastructure works linked to the UAE’s national railway network. Authorities have advised drivers to plan their journeys ahead of time and follow alternative routes to help minimise delays during the construction period.
What motorists need to know
According to the RTA, the closure affects the Dubai exit leading to Maliha Road towards Sharjah. Directional signage has been installed to guide road users along alternative routes while work is underway.

Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time, particularly during peak traffic hours, and stay updated on any traffic advisories issued by the relevant authorities.
Part of the UAE’s wider rail network development
The temporary closure forms part of infrastructure works supporting the Etihad Rail project, one of the UAE’s largest transport developments.
The national railway network is designed to improve connectivity between emirates and facilitate both passenger and freight transport across the country. Once fully operational, the project is expected to enhance mobility, strengthen links between key cities and industrial areas, and help reduce pressure on the country’s road network.
