The Dubai Mallathon at DXB is bringing a fresh twist to fitness this August, with Dubai International Airport set to become an indoor walking venue for the first time. As part of Dubai’s growing focus on health and wellbeing, the world’s busiest international airport will join the citywide Mallathon initiative, encouraging people to stay active even during the peak of summer.
While the event won’t be open to the general public, it marks another step in Dubai’s effort to make movement part of everyday life by transforming familiar spaces into places for exercise.
Bringing wellness to one of Dubai’s busiest landmarks
Dubai Airports has confirmed that DXB will host a special edition of the Dubai Mallathon this month. The initiative is inspired by the vision of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, to help make Dubai one of the world’s healthiest and most active cities.

Instead of its usual role as a gateway for millions of international travellers, parts of the airport will temporarily become a dedicated indoor walking route for invited participants.
Dubai Airports has also clarified that the event is strictly by invitation only, and members of the public are asked not to travel to DXB to take part.
What is the Dubai Mallathon?
The Dubai Mallathon is a summer wellness initiative that turns indoor venues into comfortable spaces for walking and light exercise. By using air-conditioned locations, the programme allows residents and visitors to stay active despite the high outdoor temperatures.
The concept first launched in shopping malls across Dubai, making fitness more accessible during the hottest months of the year. DXB’s participation expands the initiative beyond retail spaces and highlights how different parts of the city can support healthier lifestyles.
Why DXB is taking part
Dubai International Airport is recognised as the world’s busiest airport for international passenger traffic, making it one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Hosting the Mallathon at DXB reflects Dubai’s broader approach to integrating wellbeing into everyday environments rather than limiting fitness to traditional gyms or sports facilities.
The initiative also reinforces the idea that health can be woven into daily routines, whether in shopping destinations, workplaces or major public spaces.
As Dubai continues to promote active living across the emirate, DXB’s first-ever participation in the Dubai Mallathon shows how even one of the world’s busiest transport hubs can become an unexpected setting for movement, community and wellbeing.
