The UAE back-to-school 2026 season is almost here, with students following the August/September academic calendar returning to classrooms on Monday, August 31. Along with the usual return to routines, this academic year brings a new admission age cut-off and a tuition fee freeze for Dubai private schools.
When do UAE schools reopen?
The 2026-27 academic year begins on Monday, August 31, 2026, for public schools and private schools following the Ministry of Education curriculum. Teachers and administrative staff return on August 24 for preparation and training.

The first mid-term break runs from October 12 to 18, followed by the winter break from December 14 to January 3. The spring break is scheduled for April 5 to 11, with the academic year ending on July 2, 2027.
Parents should note that schools following Indian, Pakistani and Japanese curricula in Dubai generally operate on an April-to-March calendar and have different dates. Individual schools may also have their own orientation arrangements.
New admission age rules for 2026-27
Families with younger children will need to take note of a new admission cut-off. For schools starting in August or September, the cut-off has moved from August 31 to December 31.
Children entering KG1 must now turn four by December 31 of the year they enrol. The same cut-off applies to other entry years, with Pre-K/FS1 requiring children to be three, KG2/Year 1 five and Grade 1/Year 2 six by December 31.
The change applies to new admissions. Children already enrolled during 2025-26 will continue their existing progression. April-start schools will continue using March 31 as their cut-off.
Dubai school fees remain frozen
There is some relief for Dubai families this year. KHDA has confirmed that private school tuition fees will not increase for 2026-27, following directives from Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Parents should still check their school’s fee fact sheet, as costs for transport, uniforms, extracurricular activities and other services can sit outside tuition.
What else should Dubai parents know?
KHDA will also resume quality assurance visits to private schools during 2026-27. Assessments will consider information including student achievement, school self-evaluations and other performance data.
For now, August 31 is the date to mark. Checking your school’s individual calendar and confirming additional costs ahead of time can help make the return to school a smoother one.
