ATHAR by Qlab Is Bringing Sheikh Zayed-Inspired Emirati Hospitality To Mirdif

ATHAR by Qlab is now welcoming diners during its soft opening at Chef’s Society in City Centre Mirdif, offering a new take on Emirati dining inspired by the UAE’s heritage, hospitality and the enduring legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The all-day restaurant and specialty coffee destination brings together traditional recipes, Arabic coffee and contemporary dishes in a setting designed to feel like an Emirati home.

The name Athar means “an imprint” in Arabic, reflecting the idea of leaving a lasting mark through food, memories and culture.

A restaurant inspired by Emirati homes

The concept looks to some of the most familiar spaces in traditional Emirati life: the family table and the majlis. These were places where people gathered over meals, welcomed guests and spent time together over coffee.

Details within the restaurant draw on this heritage too. One of the most distinctive is the dekka, a traditional bench found outside old Emirati homes. It was often a natural meeting point for neighbours, friends and passersby, making it a fitting symbol of the community spirit that Athar hopes to recreate.

The restaurant’s wider concept is inspired by the values associated with Sheikh Zayed’s legacy, including community, generosity, connection and cultural identity.

Emirati recipes at the heart of the menu

Food is central to the experience, with the menu exploring different sides of Emirati cuisine. Dishes take inspiration from family gatherings, majlis occasions and celebrations, alongside everyday recipes that have been passed down through generations.

Traditional favourites include lamb majboos and chicken madrooba, giving diners a chance to explore some of the UAE’s best-known comfort foods.

There is also room for more contemporary tastes, with premium burgers, sandwiches and a steak sandwich available alongside the heritage dishes. This makes the menu accessible for groups where everyone may not be looking for a traditional Emirati meal.

Come for the coffee too

Coffee plays an important role at Athar, particularly Emirati coffee, which has long been closely connected to welcoming guests and showing hospitality in UAE culture.

The speciality coffee offering gives that tradition a more contemporary setting, with drinks designed for everything from a casual coffee stop to a longer gathering.

Dessert options include Date Pudding and Um Ali, while speciality drinks also include iced matcha.

What to know before visiting

Athar is currently in its soft opening phase at Chef’s Society, City Centre Mirdif. Prices generally range between Dh50 and Dh100 per person.

An official full opening date has not yet been announced. For now, the soft opening offers an early look at a concept that brings together Emirati food, coffee, architecture and hospitality, with Sheikh Zayed’s legacy inspiring the experience.
