Dubai Design District is entering a new chapter as the city’s leading creative hub expands into a larger mixed-use waterfront community. Long recognised as a destination for design, fashion, art and innovation, d3 is now evolving into a neighbourhood where people can not only work, but also live, socialise and enjoy a more connected lifestyle.
Located between Downtown Dubai and Dubai Creek, the district has traditionally served as a business and creative free zone. However, a major expansion led by Meraas is reshaping the area into an 18-million-square-foot lifestyle destination that combines residential developments, cultural spaces, retail offerings and public waterfront areas.
The transformation reflects a broader trend in Dubai’s urban planning, where districts are increasingly being designed as self-contained communities that blend work, leisure and residential living.
New Homes, Waterfront Spaces and Lifestyle Experiences
At the heart of the expansion is a new master plan that introduces a range of lifestyle-focused zones stretching along the Dubai Canal. These include waterfront promenades, residential neighbourhoods, dining destinations, cultural spaces and wellness-focused public areas.
Several major residential developments are helping drive this transformation. Design Quarter at d3, the district’s first dedicated residential community, is currently under construction and will introduce apartments with views of the Dubai skyline alongside resort-style amenities.

New projects such as The Edit at d3 and Atelis are also adding luxury residential options to the area. Positioned near Dubai Creek and the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, these developments are designed to offer residents access to both urban convenience and natural surroundings.
The wider vision includes walkable public spaces, landscaped areas, retail outlets and community-focused amenities that encourage residents and visitors to spend more time within the district.
Strengthening d3’s Global Creative Identity
While residential growth is a major focus, Dubai Design District continues to strengthen its role as a centre for creativity and innovation. The area remains home to design studios, fashion brands, creative agencies and entrepreneurs from around the world.
To support future demand, plans are also underway to add six new office buildings, increasing the supply of Grade A commercial space and reinforcing d3’s position as a leading business destination for the creative sector.

The district has also earned international recognition through major events such as Dubai Fashion Week and Downtown Design, which attract designers, brands and industry professionals from across the globe.
As new residential projects, commercial developments and cultural attractions take shape, Dubai Design District is evolving from a creative workplace into a fully integrated waterfront community. The result is a destination that continues to celebrate design and innovation while offering a more complete urban lifestyle experience.
