Dubai Traffic Violations: 3 Rules to Know

The Dubai Media Office issued an announcement on the social media platform regarding traffic rules and violations during rainy conditions.

With the current rough and wet weather conditions across the UAE, including in Dubai, as well as the ongoing geopolitical tensions, such public violations, whether in traffic or otherwise, are easy to commit.

Residents are more likely to drive rashly or forget certain rules, especially when in a hurry to reach home in rainy weather.

Three Violations in Rainy Conditions

A single careless mistake can result in a fine on the roads of Dubai, making mindful driving and movement in public spaces all the more necessary for the safety of all involved.

The Dubai Media Office outlines three such rules and traffic violations in rainy conditions in Dubai, along with their respective penalties:

  • Gathering near valleys (wadis), flood zones, or dams during rainfall: Whether solo or in a car, or as a large public gathering, in vehicles or otherwise, this can prove dangerous, as there is a constant risk of water overflowing. The fine for this violation is AED 1,000, and traffic points are 6.
  • Entering flooded valleys regardless of water level or degree of danger: Do not enter or drive into areas suffering waterlogging and overflow of water. The fine for this is AED 2,000; traffic points are 23; and vehicle impoundment constitutes 60 days for this violation.
  • Obstructing relevant authorities in managing traffic or emergency, rescue, and ambulance operations during crises, disasters, rainfall, or flooding: Avoid entering traffic jams or gathering in large groups in public, both to facilitate easy traffic flow and for your own safety. This violation carries a fine of AED 1,000, 4 traffic points, and a 60-day vehicle impoundment.

Five Traffic Violations to be Aware Of

The official website of Dubai Police lists a long list of traffic violations, along with their respective fines and penalties.

Here are five traffic rule violations that are common and which residents need to be aware of, in addition to the above three:

  • Using a handheld mobile phone while driving (a fine of AED 800; 4 Black Points)
  • Driving below the minimum speed set for the road (if any) (a fine of AED 400; 4 Black Points)
  • Sudden swerving (a fine of AED 1000; 4 Black Points)
  • Parking in a way that interrupts pedestrian movement (a fine of AED 400)
  • Failure of pedestrians to abide by traffic signals (a fine of AED 400)
