Emirates Engineering Mega Hub in Dubai South to Create Thousands of Jobs

Dubai’s aviation sector is preparing for a major long-term expansion as Emirates Airlines has officially broken ground on a $5.1 billion (Dh18.7 billion) engineering mega hub in Dubai South.

The project, which is scheduled for completion by mid-2030, was launched during a ceremony attended by senior aviation leaders, including Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

A Major Job Engine for Dubai’s Aviation Sector

One of the most significant outcomes of the project is its potential to create thousands of jobs across different levels of expertise.

Emirates says the facility will require a wide range of professionals, including aircraft engineers, mechanics, technical specialists, administrators and support staff.

According to Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Operations Officer Adel Al Redha, the scale of the hub means employment opportunities will not be limited to a single category of workers. Instead, it is expected to open roles across engineering, maintenance operations, logistics and aviation support services, attracting both local and international talent.

One of the World’s Largest Aviation Engineering Facilities

Spanning 1.1 million square metres, the Emirates engineering mega hub in Dubai South will be among the largest aviation structures globally. Its design and scale place it in a category that goes far beyond conventional aircraft maintenance centres.

It will be capable of servicing up to 28 wide-body aircraft at the same time, making it unique in global aviation maintenance capacity. The facility will also include one of the world’s largest free-span hangars and a major dedicated landing gear workshop.

Beyond Maintenance: A Shift in Aviation Capability

What makes this project particularly significant is that it is not limited to routine aircraft servicing. The facility will allow aircraft conversions, including passenger-to-freighter transformations, along with full cabin redesigns and structural modifications.

It will also include advanced aircraft painting capabilities, an area currently facing global shortages in capacity.

Designed for the Future of Aviation

The facility will target LEED Platinum certification with solar energy integration, aligning with sustainability goals. It also supports Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33 and strengthens the emirate’s position as a global aviation hub linked to Al Maktoum International Airport.

Construction is expected to progress in phases, with operations beginning before full completion in 2030.
