Dubai South Mall is set to become one of the biggest upcoming retail developments in the city after plans were announced for a major new shopping destination within a Dhs62 billion mixed-use community in Dubai South.
The upcoming mall will be developed by Majid Al Futtaim, the company behind several major retail destinations in the region including Mall of the Emirates. The project forms part of a large master-planned development spanning 22 million square feet near Al Maktoum International Airport.
While the mall’s official name and opening timeline have not yet been revealed, it is expected to serve as the central retail, entertainment and lifestyle hub for the wider community.
A New Retail Hub Planned for Dubai South
Dubai South has long been positioned as one of the emirate’s key future growth corridors, particularly due to its proximity to Al Maktoum International Airport, which is planned to eventually become the world’s largest airport by passenger capacity.
Wider development will include residential neighbourhoods, retail spaces and lifestyle offerings designed to support the growing population in Dubai South and surrounding communities. The location also offers direct connectivity to major highways and transport corridors across Dubai.
A new mall is expected to play a major role in shaping the area into a self-contained urban district, particularly as more residents and businesses move into the southern part of the city.
Majid Al Futtaim Expands Its Dubai Presence
This project marks another major expansion for Majid Al Futtaim in Dubai’s retail and mixed-use sector. The company already operates several shopping malls, entertainment destinations and lifestyle developments across the UAE and the wider region.
The new agreement also reflects Dubai’s continued focus on large-scale urban developments linked to the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to strengthen the city’s position as a global hub for business, investment and quality living.
As Dubai South continues to grow around aviation, logistics and residential development, the new mall is expected to become one of the area’s key landmarks in the coming years.
