The Dubai Mall Metro Station bus and taxi road closure is now in effect, with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announcing that the temporary restriction will remain in place until the end of 2026. The closure is part of the ongoing expansion of the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station, one of the busiest stations on the Dubai Metro network.
The station serves thousands of commuters every day, including residents and visitors travelling to popular destinations such as Downtown Dubai, Dubai Mall, and Burj Khalifa. According to the RTA, the temporary closure is necessary to support construction work that will significantly increase the station’s capacity and improve the overall passenger experience.
What the Temporary Closure Means for Commuters
The temporary closure affects the bus and taxi service on the road leading to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station. During the construction period, the road will be reserved exclusively for construction vehicles and will not be accessible to public transport users or motorists.

To minimise disruption, the RTA has introduced an integrated traffic management plan. Public transport users will continue to have access to the station through alternative routes, while directional signs have been installed to help guide commuters safely around the affected area.
Motorists are encouraged to use the alternative parking locations identified by the RTA and follow all posted traffic signs and speed limits. The authority has also advised residents and visitors to allow extra travel time and begin their journeys earlier than usual, particularly during peak travel periods.
Station Expansion Aims to Meet Growing Demand
The temporary inconvenience comes as part of a major expansion project designed to accommodate the increasing number of passengers using the station each year. Once completed, the upgraded Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station will be able to handle significantly more commuters during busy periods.
The project will increase the station’s passenger capacity by 65 per cent, raising its hourly capacity from 7,250 to 12,320 passengers. Daily capacity will also increase up to 220,000 passengers, helping reduce congestion during major events and holidays, including New Year’s Eve, when Downtown Dubai experiences some of the highest visitor numbers of the year.
The RTA says the improvements will support Dubai’s growing population, tourism sector, and public transport network while making journeys smoother for the millions of people who rely on the metro each year. Until construction is complete, commuters are encouraged to stay updated with RTA announcements and follow the temporary traffic arrangements when travelling to and from the station.
