Abu Kizan Marine Village: Sharjah unveils Italian-inspired coastal village in Khor Fakkan

Sharjah’s new Abu Kizan Marine Village marks one of the most ambitious coastal developments announced for Khor Fakkan, introducing an Italian-inspired seaside concept to the UAE’s east coast.

Inspired by famous seaside towns such as Riomaggiore, the project will combine colourful Ligurian-style architecture with Islamic design elements, all set against Khor Fakkan’s dramatic mountain and sea views. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi recently announced the development as part of Sharjah’s wider vision to transform Khor Fakkan into a world-class tourism destination.

Spread across around 7 million square feet, Abu Kizan Marine Village is designed to feel like a walkable coastal town rather than a traditional residential project. Early plans show waterfront pathways, scenic boulevards, landscaped green spaces, and a natural harbour carved between the rocks, creating a setting that blends nature with architecture.

What’s planned for Abu Kizan Marine Village

The development is expected to include beach and marina access, residential villas, commercial spaces, a hotel, and a mosque. It will also feature pedestrian-friendly walkways and open public areas designed to encourage outdoor living and tourism.

What makes the project stand out is its visual inspiration. The colourful hillside buildings and waterfront layout draw comparisons to Italy’s coastal villages, while still incorporating local and regional design influences.

A new chapter for Khor Fakkan tourism

Khor Fakkan has seen major tourism and infrastructure developments in recent years, with Sharjah investing heavily in beaches, roads, waterfront attractions, and hospitality projects along the east coast.

Abu Kizan Marine Village could become one of the city’s most visually distinctive developments yet, especially for visitors looking for a destination that feels very different from the UAE’s usual urban skyline.

While construction timelines and opening dates have not yet been announced, the project has already generated strong interest online for its unusual mix of Mediterranean coastal charm and Emirati landscape.
