Dubai’s new high-tech pet shelter, which the residents can now visit, is making the journey to pet adoption more thoughtful, transparent and accessible. Opened by Dubai Municipality at the Birds and Pets Market in Warsan, the facility combines advanced veterinary care with a digital adoption platform, giving future pet owners a better understanding of each animal before they even step through the doors.

A modern shelter built around animal care
The integrated shelter has been created to care for stray and loose companion animals in a safe and purpose-built environment before they are matched with suitable families. Every animal receives medical attention, rehabilitation and behavioural assessments to help prepare them for adoption.
The facility includes a veterinary clinic, a surgical operating theatre equipped with advanced veterinary technology, a grooming unit and dedicated rehabilitation spaces. There are also pre-adoption viewing areas and interactive adoption rooms where prospective owners can spend time getting to know an animal in a relaxed setting before making their decision.
For families searching for a missing pet, the shelter also houses a reunification centre that helps return lost animals to their owners after identification and ownership details have been verified.
Dubai Municipality says the facility has been developed in line with internationally recognised animal health and welfare standards while helping manage stray animal populations humanely and sustainably.
Browse pets before you visit
One of the biggest additions is the new digital adoption platform, designed to make the adoption process easier for residents.
The platform allows users to browse animals currently available for adoption while viewing detailed health records, behavioural profiles and care information for each pet.
By offering more information upfront, prospective owners can make informed decisions and find a pet that is well suited to their home and lifestyle before arranging a visit to the shelter.
The digital approach is intended to create smoother adoption journeys while encouraging more responsible long-term pet ownership.
Part of Dubai’s wider animal welfare efforts
Alongside the shelter, Dubai Municipality has signed memoranda of understanding with Vets Fur Pets Veterinary Clinic and Phoenix Veterinary Clinic to expand healthcare and welfare programmes for stray and loose companion animals.
The partnerships will support treatment, rehabilitation, community education and humane animal management programmes, including trap-neuter-return (TNR) initiatives for stray cats. Under this approach, cats are humanely trapped, neutered, vaccinated where needed and returned to their original locations when it is safe to do so.
The opening also builds on Dubai Municipality’s recent animal welfare initiatives, including the launch of AI-powered “Ihsan” smart feeding stations earlier this year. Together, these projects reflect the city’s continued investment in creating a more compassionate environment for animals while making responsible pet ownership easier for the community.
