Dubai Metro Blue Line Slated for 2029: 14 New Stations Revealed

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the initial tunnelling works for the Dubai Metro Blue Line project, valued at more than AED 20.5 billion.

Scheduled for delivery by 9th September 2029 and spanning 30 kilometres, the route comprises a 15.5-kilometre underground section and a 14.5-kilometre above-ground section.

The Dubai Metro Blue Line is expected to drastically improve commutes in the city. Journeys that typically take over an hour are expected to be cut by half. This is part of a larger goal to make the city more connected, efficient and sustainable.

Which Areas Does the Blue Line Serve?

According to the Dubai Media Office, the Dubai Metro Blue Line will connect with the Green Line at Creek Station and the Red Line at Centrepoint Station, serving residential communities, academic areas, and zones of major development.

The line will also serve Dubai Silicon Oasis, providing direct journeys from these areas to Dubai International Airport in only 20 minutes. It will also reduce traffic congestion by 20 per cent along these corridors.

Overall, the Blue Line extends in two directions. The first begins from Creek Interchange Station on the Green Line in Al Jaddaf and passes through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour and Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, and terminates at International City 1, which includes an underground interchange station.

It continues to International City 2 and 3, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Dubai Academic City. This section includes 10 stations.

The second runs from Centrepoint Interchange Station on the Red Line in Al Rashidiya, passes through Mirdif and Al Warqa’a to the interchange station at International City 1. This section has four stations.

Nature Themes of the Blue Line Stations

Dubai Metro Blue Line will feature 14 stations, including three interchange stations, seven elevated stations and four underground stations, serving nine important districts. A distinctive design has been planned for the Emaar Properties Station, which is expected to be the world’s tallest metro station at 74 metres.

Interestingly, the stations’ interior designs are inspired by the four natural elements: fire, earth, air and water. Three are designed around the theme of air, featuring open spaces and ample light. Two stations showcase the theme of water, with flowing forms and calm colours to give a sense of constant movement.

Four other stations adopt the theme of earth as a design, with earthy tones in their interior spaces. Yet two others will bring out the theme of fire through dynamic, bright colour gradations, and lighting that emphasises a sense of activity and energy.
