Candlelight concerts in Dubai are truly an enigma. The experience of listening to melodies of classical and contemporary music, while seated in a hall illuminated by nothing but thousands of candles, is mesmerising like no other.

Dubai’s cultural scene provides platforms for talented musicians to present the musical repertoire of legends such as French singer Édith Piaf and Italian Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi.

Tribute to Umm Kulthum

On Saturday, 9th May, at 7 pm, a candlelight concert at Al Habtoor Polo Resort in Wadi Al Safa 5 will pay a tribute to the late Egyptian singer and actor Umm Kulthum.

Among the most famous Arabic musical artists of the 20th century, she was dubbed the ‘Star of the East’. Her works gave voice to the collective Arab cultural identity.

The tributary act will be performed by the UAE-based MENA Band, known for bringing Arab musical heritage to the forefront. The line-up of songs includes ‘Seeret El Hob’, ‘Ana Fi Entazarak’ and ‘Alef Leila W Leila’.

Long Live the Rock Legends

Al Majlis in Madinat Jumeirah will host another multi-sensory musical experience on Saturday, 16th May, from 6.30 pm onwards. It is a tribute to the famed British rock band Queen, performed by pianist Aldo Dotto.

Fans can groove to popular tracks such as ‘Another One Bites the Dust’, ‘Love of My Life’, ‘We Are the Champions’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’.
