Upcoming Dubai Metro Gold Line to Reduce Traffic, Link Key Areas

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved the Dubai Metro Gold Line, expected to be the emirate’s largest sustainable transportation project. It is estimated to ease traffic congestion, cutting over 40 million journeys per year.

Dubai’s Rail Network Plan 2032 map has been released, showcasing the full route of the Gold Line. Spanning 42 kilometres, it will connect Al Ghubaiba in old Dubai to Jumeirah Golf Estates, passing through important districts such as Business Bay and Meydan.

Benefits of the Dubai Metro Gold Line

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority, has stated that congestion on the Red Line will be reduced by up to 23 per cent between the BurJuman and ONPASSIVE stations. Dubai residents will also enjoy increased connectivity with other emirates.

HH Sheikh Mohammed said, “The AED 34 billion Gold Line project will expand the Dubai Metro network by 35 per cent, with completion scheduled for 9th September 2032.”

The Gold Line also links the Red and Green Lines, and will be integrated with the Etihad Train, connecting Dubai to the national transport network.

The route spans 15 key locations, including Mina Rashid, City Walk, Business Bay, Mohammed Bin Rashid City, Nad Al Sheba, Mohammed bin Rashid Gardens, Meydan, Al Barsha South and Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC).

The Dubai Metro accounts for 40% of the city’s public transport users. The new project will benefit approximately 1.5 million residents by 2040.

The Gold Line will include looped connections for better mobility across both short and long routes. Advanced tunnelling technologies are to be used during construction, leading to minimal daily disruptions and traffic.
