Dubai RTA Completes 726 Bus Shelters to Improve Connectivity

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed its installation of 726 modern bus shelters in important areas across Dubai. These bus shelters will help raise the quality of public transport in Dubai, improving efficiency and mobility.

As per a post by Dubai RTA on social media, these new shelters are designed to serve over 192 million passengers per year, while some are connected to over 10 bus routes to increase flexibility of commuting.

What Do the New Bus Shelters Include?

The new bus shelters blend integrated services with contemporary, appealing designs, and also enhance the sustainability of Dubai’s public transportation network by cutting down on travel time.

The Dubai RTA revealed that the locations of the new bus shelters were chosen to meet certain needs. These include high-density areas, integration with modes of individual mobility, and the present and future requirements of public bus services in Dubai.

The bus shelters are categorised into seven models, on the basis of usage levels. These include mains stops serving over 750 riders every day, secondary stops accommodating between 250 to 750 riders per day, standard stops serving 100 to 250 riders per day, and even pick-up and drop-off stops catering to less than 100 riders every day.

The design of the new shelters is in compliance with the Dubai Universal Design Code for People of Determination, with dedicated spaces available for wheelchair users.

Another piece of good news is that shelters at main stops are air-conditioned and have shaded outdoor spaces.

They also provide information displays showcasing bus network maps, timetables, service frequency and other information and services for riders.
