Dubai Creek Lights is set to bring a new glow to one of Dubai’s most storied waterfronts, with Dubai Municipality beginning work on an AED 80 million project spanning eight kilometres of the Creek. Designed as more than a lighting upgrade, the project will create a distinctive nighttime experience that brings together the area’s history, architecture, culture and waterfront spaces.
As the sun goes down, familiar parts of the Creek will take on a different character, with carefully designed lighting intended to draw attention to historic buildings, traditional markets, promenades and architectural landmarks.
Six parts of the Creek will be transformed
Dubai Creek Lights will cover six key areas: Creek Quay, the Creek Promenade at the Gold Souq, the Creek entrance at Infinity Bridge, Al Shindagha Historic District, Bur Dubai Souq and Al Seef Marina.
More than 5,000 lighting units will form part of the project, with the overall scheme visible from more than 1,500 feet above ground. Lighting will be tailored to the identity of each location, allowing the different architectural and heritage features along the Creek to stand out after sunset.
Promenades, Creek entrances, building façades and waterfront walkways will also receive lighting upgrades, creating a more inviting environment for evening walks and time spent by the water.
Bringing Creek heritage into the night
Long before Dubai’s modern skyline took shape, the Creek was at the centre of the city’s trading life. Ships and traditional dhows once relied on lights along its banks as they carried goods and supported commerce.
Dubai Creek Lights gives that connection with light a contemporary purpose. The project is intended to celebrate the Creek’s cultural identity while creating a livelier nighttime setting that can support tourism and commercial activity around the waterfront.
It also forms part of wider efforts linked to the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033.
A more sustainable glow
The project will use sustainable lighting solutions designed to minimise environmental impacts on marine life, balancing the visual transformation with the protection of the Creek’s natural ecosystem.
The initiative follows Dubai’s recognition as the World’s Most Beautiful City at Night for 2026, and reflects the emirate’s wider focus on creating attractive, safe and engaging public spaces after dark.
When will it be ready?
Dubai Creek Lights is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027. Once finished, the project is expected to further strengthen Dubai Creek’s role as a cultural, historical and economic landmark while offering residents and visitors a fresh reason to experience its waterfront after sunset.
