Dubai is no stranger to record-breaking achievements, and 2026 has already added several new milestones to the city’s growing list of Guinness World Records.
This year, records have been set across public safety, sport, engineering, and community fitness, with Dubai Police leading many of the accomplishments.
From hosting the world’s largest international SWAT competition to marathon feats and a giant UAE flag flown from a moving vehicle, these achievements reflect the city’s continued focus on innovation, teamwork, and ambitious projects.
Here are five Guinness World Records that made headlines in Dubai this year.
1. Dubai Police hosted the largest international SWAT Challenge
Dubai Police set a new Guinness World Record after welcoming tactical teams from 48 countries to the seventh edition of the UAE SWAT Challenge. The achievement surpassed the previous record of 46 participating countries, which Dubai Police had also set.

Held over five days at Training City in Al Ruwayyah, the competition brought together 109 elite tactical teams from around the world, including first-time participants from Panama and Bolivia. Teams competed in demanding events such as assault challenges, hostage rescue scenarios, tactical operations, high tower drills, and obstacle courses that tested speed, precision, teamwork, and endurance.
The competition also highlighted growing diversity in the field, with eight all-women tactical teams and two mixed teams taking part. Kazakhstan Team C secured first place, followed by Kazakhstan Team A and China Police Team C.
2. A giant UAE flag was flown from a moving vehicle
Dubai became home to another Guinness World Record after Emirati Ahmed Hassan Al Shehhi and Yahya Saeed Lootah successfully flew the world’s largest banner lifted from a pole mounted on a vehicle.

The record featured a 429.977-square-metre UAE flag-shaped banner, supported by a custom-built 30-metre flagpole installed on an International MXT truck. The attempt took place on the runway at Skydive Dubai, where the vehicle safely lifted the massive flag clear of the ground while in motion.
The project was completed in just six days and was inspired by the “Proud of UAE” campaign, which celebrates national pride and unity. Guinness World Records officially certified the achievement in June 2026.
3. A Dubai Police coach completed the fastest 10km in a taekwondo uniform
During the 2026 Dubai Marathon, Saeed Khamis Bilal earned a Guinness World Record by completing a 10-kilometre race in 48 minutes and 6 seconds while wearing a traditional taekwondo dobok.

Unlike standard running clothing, a dobok is made from a heavier fabric and offers less flexibility, making long-distance running more physically demanding. Despite these challenges, Bilal maintained an impressive pace throughout the race.
The record formed part of a collaboration between the Dubai Marathon and Guinness World Records, with official adjudicators verifying the achievement immediately after the race.
4. Dubai Police completed the fastest 10km while carrying a stretcher
Another achievement came during the Dubai Marathon, where a four-member Dubai Police team set the record for the fastest 10km carrying a stretcher.

The officers completed the course in 56 minutes and 50 seconds while carrying a stretcher supporting a 70-kilogram training dummy. Under Guinness World Records rules, the stretcher had to remain fully supported throughout the entire distance without being placed on the ground.
The challenge required constant coordination, communication, and endurance, demonstrating the expected physical readiness of emergency response teams. The record was later recognised during a ceremony at the Dubai Police Officers’ Club.
5. Dubai Mallathon brought together the most runners in a mall event
The Dubai Mallathon earned recognition when 1,392 participants took part in a single indoor running event at Dubai Hills Mall, setting a Guinness World Record for the most runners in a mall run.

Launched to encourage residents to stay active during the summer months, the initiative transformed several shopping malls into indoor walking and running tracks. Participants could choose routes ranging from 2.5km to 10km at locations including Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Festival City Mall, Mirdif City Centre, Deira City Centre, and Dubai Hills Mall.
The wider Dubai Mallathon attracted more than 40,000 participants, who collectively recorded over 120 million steps. Following its success, the initiative has been expanded into a longer annual fitness programme, giving residents even more opportunities to stay active indoors.
