The Dubai Creek Lighting Project is set to transform one of the city’s most historic areas into a vibrant night-time destination. Approved by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the initiative will introduce advanced architectural and integrated lighting systems along an 8-kilometre stretch of Dubai Creek, highlighting its cultural heritage while creating a more engaging experience for residents and visitors.
Led by Dubai Municipality, the project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027. It forms part of a wider package of urban development initiatives announced for the emirate, including the new Dubai Falcon Market and an AI-designed public park. Together, these projects aim to enhance public spaces, strengthen Dubai’s cultural identity, and improve quality of life across the emirate.
A New Night-Time Experience Along Dubai Creek
The Dubai Creek Lighting Project will introduce an integrated lighting system designed to showcase the area’s architectural and historical character after sunset. It will extend across promenades, waterfront walkways, creek entrances, heritage markets, and the façades of surrounding buildings, creating a cohesive look throughout the district.

Beyond improving visibility, the project aims to encourage more people to explore the waterfront during the evening. By enhancing the atmosphere and creating more welcoming public spaces, Dubai Municipality hopes to create a destination that blends history, culture, and modern urban design.
The upgraded lighting is also expected to improve pedestrian safety and support a wider range of evening activities, giving residents and tourists a new way to experience one of Dubai’s oldest neighbourhoods.
Celebrating Dubai’s Cultural Heritage
Dubai Creek has played a central role in the city’s history, serving as the heart of trade, commerce, and community life long before Dubai became a global metropolis. Through the new lighting project, Dubai Municipality aims to celebrate this heritage while preserving the area’s unique character.
The lighting design will draw attention to historic architecture and cultural landmarks, reinforcing Dubai Creek’s importance as one of the emirate’s most significant historical and economic symbols. The project also aligns with international best practices for revitalising waterfronts and heritage districts, ensuring the area remains attractive while respecting its historical identity.
Once completed, the Dubai Creek Lighting Project is expected to strengthen the creek’s appeal as both a cultural attraction and a leisure destination. By combining innovative lighting with thoughtful urban planning, the initiative will help transform Dubai Creek into a lively waterfront that can be enjoyed long after sunset, supporting tourism while celebrating the area’s heritage.
