RTA Al Khaleej Street Tunnel Project 80% Complete, Dubai Says

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) say the RTA Al Khaleej Street Tunnel Project has reached 80 per cent completion as work continues on a major road infrastructure upgrade in Deira.

The tunnel extends 1,650 metres from the end of the Infinity Bridge ramp in Deira to the intersection of Al Khaleej Street and Al Wuheida Street. Once completed, the project is expected to improve traffic movement and reduce congestion along one of the city’s busiest corridors.

Tunnel to Handle 12,000 Vehicles Per Hour

According to the RTA, the tunnel will feature three lanes in each direction, with a combined capacity of up to 12,000 vehicles per hour.

The project is designed to support smoother traffic flow between key parts of Deira and nearby residential and commercial districts. By moving a large volume of vehicles underground, the tunnel is also expected to reduce pressure on surface-level intersections and improve overall road efficiency in the area.

The development is linked to the Infinity Bridge corridor, which has become an important traffic route connecting Deira and Bur Dubai.

Part of Dubai’s Wider Infrastructure Expansion

The RTA Al Khaleej Street Tunnel Project is part of Dubai’s broader transport and infrastructure development plans to improve road connectivity and reduce travel times across the emirate.

Dubai has continued to invest in major road and bridge projects to support population growth and rising traffic demand. Infrastructure upgrades across the city currently include highway expansions, intersection improvements, and public transport connectivity projects.

While the RTA has not yet announced an official opening date for the tunnel, the authority says construction progress has now crossed the 80 per cent mark.

Once operational, the tunnel is expected to make daily commutes easier for motorists travelling through Deira and surrounding areas by offering more direct and uninterrupted traffic movement.
