AI parking cameras in Dubai are becoming a reality as Parkin begins installing hundreds of smart camera units designed to automate parking payments and improve traffic flow across the emirate.
The company, which manages public parking operations in Dubai, has started deploying more than 500 AI-enabled curb-side and pole-mounted cameras in some of the city’s busiest neighbourhoods.
The first phase of the project covers areas including Burj Khalifa, Trade Centre 1 and Al Corniche.

The new system is designed to simplify street parking by removing the need for drivers to manually activate sessions through parking meters or SMS.
Instead, the AI-powered cameras automatically detect vehicles, read licence plate numbers and calculate parking duration before processing payment digitally through the Parkin app.
According to Parkin, the deployment also includes the region’s first curb-side camera units designed to blend into existing street infrastructure.
In addition to the street-level installation, another 200 cameras are being added to controlled parking lots across Dubai.
How the AI parking system works
The technology relies on artificial intelligence and automated number plate recognition to monitor parking activity in real time.
When a vehicle enters a monitored parking area, the cameras record the licence plate and timestamp the parking session automatically.
Once the vehicle exits, the system calculates the total parking duration and processes the payment through the user’s linked Parkin account and integrated digital wallet.
For drivers, this means there is no need to search for parking machines, send SMS codes, or manually extend sessions.
The smart camera units are also fully solar-powered, supporting Dubai’s broader focus on sustainable and technology-driven urban infrastructure.
By reducing reliance on traditional parking hardware, the system aims to create a more seamless and efficient parking experience across busy districts.
Real-time data could help ease congestion
Beyond simplifying payments, the AI system is also expected to support traffic management efforts across the city.
One of the major causes of congestion in crowded areas is motorists driving around while searching for available parking spaces.
With live occupancy tracking, the system can provide more accurate real-time parking data that may help reduce unnecessary traffic movement.
Officials say the automated setup is also designed to improve enforcement accuracy. Since parking duration is recorded directly through the cameras, the chances of incorrect fines or manual errors can be reduced.
The rollout reflects Dubai’s wider push to integrate artificial intelligence into everyday public services while improving mobility and digital infrastructure across the emirate.
Parkin says the system will improve customer experience
Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali described the project as an important step in expanding Dubai’s smart parking network.
He said the company’s focus remains on making parking services easier and more seamless for customers across the emirate.
Talal Al Ajmi added that integrating the smart cameras with the Parkin app will help create a more consistent and data-driven parking system.
The Parkin app, available on iOS, Android and Huawei devices, is expected to remain central to the company’s growing digital parking ecosystem as the smart parking network expands further across Dubai.
