Dubai’s Quiet Roads Initiative: Fines You Need to Be Aware Of

With one of the busiest and most complex road networks in the world, traffic in Dubai is nothing new, along with the noise, which can cause inconvenience during daily commutes.

The Dubai Police has introduced the Dubai Quiet Roads initiative to curb recurring negative traffic behaviours observed across a few residential neighbourhoods in Dubai.

The aim of the initiative is to improve the quality of life, reinstate community safety and minimise traffic-related disturbances in residential areas.

Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, listed some of these behaviours as excessive noise, reckless driving, and illegal vehicle modifications, which cause direct adverse effects on residents’ well-being.

Recently, the Dubai Police reported seizing 1,230 vehicles and issuing more than 33,000 fines under the initiative.

A Few Violations Under the Quiet Roads Initiative

The initiative has a data-driven approach. Complaints and reports are analysed to identify hotspots for repeated violations and their patterns. This enables targeted field interventions that deliver measurable results, ensuring long-lasting impact on public behaviour.

A few of the violations included were:

  • 1,178 cases of unauthorised modifications to vehicle engines or chassis
  • 412 violations for noise disturbance
  • 341 violations for reckless driving, endangering lives and property
  • 230 violations for misuse of vehicle horns or audio systems, thereby causing public nuisance

Also recorded were 17,117 violations involving motorcycles and 14,094 violations involving electric bikes and bicycles.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan has urged residents to cooperate with traffic rules and report any unruly behaviour on the road via official channels to support the protection of public safety and security of property across the city.
