Public transport solutions linking Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman were among the key agendas discussed during the first meeting of the UAE Infrastructure and Housing Council for 2026. The meeting was chaired by Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure.
The Council discussed a comprehensive plan to develop the transport network between Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, as the demand for daily commutes is on the rise.
What Does the Transport Plan Include?
The proposal introduces several measures set to reshape Dubai’s transport network. At its core is a system of 10 main routes that combine Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) with dedicated bus lanes, along with direct connections to key hubs such as metro stations and major city centres.
BRT refers to a high-capacity bus system that operates on dedicated routes, enabling faster, more reliable journeys. It delivers a similar level of efficiency to metro services, while offering greater flexibility and significantly lower infrastructure costs.

The Council noted that sustainable solutions would also be implemented to make the public transport system more robust by linking highly populated residential areas to business hubs.
The introduction of these routes is expected to ease reliance on private cars and help reduce congestion, while giving residents safer, more efficient ways to get around.
The plan also aligns with the We the UAE 2031 vision, particularly its focus on easing traffic, improving flow across the city, and introducing smarter mobility solutions to enhance everyday commutes for residents.
